Drug Uses
Carafate is used for treatment and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other conditions as recommended by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Carafate as advised by your physician. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or twp hours after a meal. Do not use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this drug. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not use Carafate at the same time as other drugs. Take Carafate at least 2 hours after other drugs. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, visit your physician or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, talk to your doctor. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been directed. Do not use less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your physician.
