Drug Uses
Carafate is used for curing and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Carafate as suggested by your doctor. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least one hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Do not use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this pill. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not use Carafate at the same time as other pills. Take Carafate at least two hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, talk to your physician or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you react to this medicine. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, talk to your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Do not take less or more or use it more often than directed by your doctor.
